To prevent high blood pressure
or manage it better you should:
Use less salt. Do not eat many
salty foods.
Eat a diet rich in fruits,
vegetables and whole-grain, high-fiber foods.
Choose fat-free or low-fat dairy
products.
Limit alcoholic to one drink a day
(for women) or two drinks a day (for men).
Know what your healthy weight
should be. Keep it at or below that level.
Enjoy at least 30 minutes of
moderate physical activity on most days of the week
Have your blood pressure checked
at least once a year.
If you have high blood
pressure...
Know your
blood pressure. Check it on a regularly basis. At least have it checked
monthly.
Take
your medicine exactly as prescribed; don't run out of pills even for one
day.
Make sure
your parents, siblings, and children have their blood pressures checked
regularly.
See your
doctor regularly.
