Smoky Mountain Wellness Arthritis Foundation® Tai Chi For Improving Health
New this year!
Smoky Mountain Wellness will provide Arthritis Foundation Tai Chi for Improving Health in conjunction with the Blount County Parks and Recreation Department.
The Everett Recreation Center located at 318 S. Everett High Road in Maryville allows for space enough for classes and Mindfulness-meditation Walking. This is not the Everett Senior Center.
The classes are Monday and Wednesday and run for six weeks. Level 1 and Level 2 classes will include group and one on one instruction on the form and stances of the Arthritis Foundation Tai Chi for Improving Health. An Advance Tai Chi class will explore the Yang 24 Form and the Level 2 Tai Chi for Arthritis. Each Tai Chi session will include Qi Gong exercises.
This is the first time an open gym format will allow individuals to practice quiet Mindfulness-meditation Walking. This mindfulness activity simply brings your full attention to the simple act of walking. With this mindful-ness technique, you focus awareness to the movement of the body as you walk thus providing the dual benefit of walking and meditation.
Class Schedule: Open Gym for Walking- 8:30 am Advance form practice - 9:00 am Arthritis Tai chi level 2 - 10:00 am Arthritis Tai Chi Level 1- 10:30 am
The Arthritis Level 1 and 2 classes include instruction for individuals to learn and practice the Tai Chi Form. Level 1 is suitable for the individual beginning to learn Tai Chi. Level 2 will include the practice of the Level 1 form and instruction for the Advanced Arthritis Tai Chi. All classes are 45 minutes to an hour.
Mindfulness-meditation walking is from 8:30 until 11:00.
